We got us some weather coming

Big storm. Howling winds. Storm surge pelting down the North Sea. High tide. Combine those and what have you got? Well, actually you have the plot of a mockumentary that was on telly a few months ago about London being completely flooded. But you also have reality tonight, and the worry that a whole stretch of the East coast could suffer from flooding. What can be done is being done, with flood defences being raised if possible and people being evacuated just in case. I guess we'll find out tomorrow what's happened.

I've been down on the north Kent coast this evening. It's getting a battering from strong winds. People there were hoping for the best, but it is a flat shoreline, so if the tide comes over the sea wall there's nothing to stop it running through the town where I was. Also, high tides can prevent rainwater drainage pipes from emptying out into the sea, and that can cause flooding too. One of the people I was with still has the sandbags from the last time that happened. Fortunately it had stopped raining by the time I came away.

I'm quite concerned about my brother's home. He lives right on the river at Oulton Broad. It wouldn't take much of a water level rise to flood him out.
