Torchwood

I've been mostly underwhelmed by Torchwood this year, which has been sad because I wanted it to be great. Then I recorded the two eps on last night and watched them today. Oh wow. This morning I watched the one about the rift and had to stop after that. This afternoon I've watched the one about the past. Finally, some excellent writing and some great insights!

And then there's the preview for the next ep (which I'm assuming is the last one of the current series). Erk!

Bet you're gonna be disappointed with series 3, then. These last two episodes, 2x11 and 12, were both written by Chris Chibnall (he's the lead writer for series 2, and also wrote Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang). He's also written the series 2 finale, but alas, he won't be there for series 3!

Don't know which one Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang was. Was that this year or last? The series 2 finale looks (from the preview) like it'll be one heck of a lot of my kind of fun. I'm pleased that I've managed to avoid spoilers this year, and that little teaser is just enough of a tease to make me look forward to... is it two weeks away? Oy.

So why isn't Chris Chibnall staying on next year? Did he upset someone? I know very little about the behind-the-scenes of this show.

He's going to be the showrunner on Law & Order UK or something.

KKBB was the first episode of series 2, y'know, with captain John Hart and the blowfish (hence the great continuity with 2x12). ;-)

Chris Chibnall is going to be showrunner (!) of Law & Order: London. As such, no more time for Torchwood. I've never really watched L&O, but I might just have to try watching that series!

Oh, I vaguely remember some mention of a UK version of this. Sounds like a terrible idea, but I'll wait and see.

Ah yes, the Captain Hart ep - how could I have forgotten that! I did like that one, definitely very entertaining. Thanks, it makes sense now.

On L&O, I've not been interested in the original, but I've recently been watching SVU and I like the main characters in that. I started around series 7, then 8, and now am back at the start with series 1 - it just happens to be where things were on Hallmark and while there is character development it's not the key part of the show so jumping around doesn't seem to cause problems.

And what's amazing is that both those episodes were written by Chris Chibnall and are the first two stories written by him that I've not disliked, although Kiss Kiss Bang Bang was bearable.

His other TW eps (apart from Kiss Kiss Bang Bang) are Day One (Alien sex fiend), Cyberwoman, and Countrycide. I cringed during each and every one.

And now he's leaving, just as he seems to have turned over a new leaf. Figures.

That was me by the way. Sorry!

Okay, yes, that's weird. Those ones you mention from the first series were pretty bad. I wonder what happened in the middle that made him change his writing?
