I've been down on the north Kent coast this evening. It's getting a battering from strong winds. People there were hoping for the best, but it is a flat shoreline, so if the tide comes over the sea wall there's nothing to stop it running through the town where I was. Also, high tides can prevent rainwater drainage pipes from emptying out into the sea, and that can cause flooding too. One of the people I was with still has the sandbags from the last time that happened. Fortunately it had stopped raining by the time I came away.
