The country is under water
Jun. 25th, 2007 09:58 pmThe news is full of pictures of RAF rescue helicopters trying to evacuate people trapped by floods, as well as rivers that have burst their banks, city centres under water, and row after estate after hamlet after row of houses devastated by flash floods. Thousands and thousands of people are affected, some dead, some missing.
The rain is apparently going to stop at some point, but in Yorkshire it's still going for a few hours yet, then heading south. By tomorrow the rain should have gone, with showers back on Wednesday. The Met Office are saying the rain is going to start again next weekend and probably stick around again. Joy.
And in other news, a judge gave a rapist 2 years (aka 4 months) for raping a ten-year-old, hostage BBC reporter Alan Johnston has been strapped into an explosives belt and paraded on video, people are still blowing each other up in Iraq, people are slaughtering other people in Darfur, California is on fire, Karachi is still flooded out with hundreds dead, Australia needs rain, and the LHC won't be powered up until May next year.
