No trains, no buses, no anything really. I hadn't thought that even before I could laugh about driving the car down the really dangerous roads I'd have to laugh about digging the car out. So, unsurprisingly I'm working from home today. Cats have been out and deemed it cold and a bit weird, and they'd rather stay in, thanks all the same. I've been out and swept the snow off the bird feeders and little bird table and dumped a whole load of seed out for them. Not much to be done about the water dish, which is completely frozen. As it's still snowing I may need to do that process again later - have left my boots at the back door in readiness.

Jango was really really whiny yesterday, and i couldn't figure out why. When I found him in the bath miowing loudly at the tap the penny dropped - he was thirsty!

Normally he refuses point blank to drink tap water, preferring to slurp from the pond or muddy puddles.

I'm at work, but it is freezing cold, and we're hoping we might get sent home if the snow keeps coming down.

It looks like it's going to come down quite heavily on your head - be careful. I could get the car out if I dig, but I have zero experience driving in this so I'm going nowhere. Warnings are saying the snow will freeze soon and only very few roads have been gritted, so it'll be dangerous to travel at all (whether walking, cycling, driving, etc). Please be careful on your way home. If there's anything you can take with you, I'd recommend leaving very soon.

I've cancelled my plans for after work. I was meeting up in the city with a friend. The roads were well-gritted this morning, and I'm lucky to have a pretty short, main roads only journey. We're all watching the weather, though, and as some of the local schools have closed at lunchtime I anticipate an early exit.

Oh, that sounds wonderful.

I'll trade you some snow for weather that feels like you've stepped into a fan forced oven.

New Zealand is sounding good...

New Zealand really does have the middle of the road with the weather, and they seem to be having a nice summer. How are you doing? Are you safe from fires where you are?

My cat went out at 7am, and is still out. I think this proves she has Russian blue in her lineage *g*. Seriously snow doesn't bother her at all. Sister's cats hate it. One flake of snow on their heads and they head back inside at cat-warp speed.

I'm working from home, but took Carole-London to the station i the city centre this morning. Took more than twice as long as usual, even though Leicester does not (yet) have the same amount of snowfall as the south east. Fortunately the train was late too.

Maybe it's because I come from the north and have had lots of practice in the past, but I'm used to driving in snow. Once cars got front wheel drive as standard, it got a lot easier too. However, the danger is the other idiot drivers on the road who DON'T know the basic techniques, and also don't appear to have engaged their common sense so I don't blame you for staying out of it, especially with the number of parked cars on your estate waiting to be slid into.

We had more snow when I was a kid, and I lived in various places that generally had snow (like Scotland). Since learning to drive I've pretty much never actually had to drive in snow, so I still work on the theory of not going out unless I have to. Even having been through Swedish and Swiss winters it was for work and so I used taxis - didn't drive myself.

The wind's starting up now, and the Met Office are saying lots more snow and strong winds this afternoon. Yum.
