Nancies

We're down to the final four, and I've at last figured out which one is which - go me!

Ahem.

Rachel shouted a lot this evening. It wasn't her choice of songs, because I've heard both Cabaret and Buenos Aires sung many times by many people and none of them seemed to have the urge to yell. I had to turn the telly down. Jessie's just not strong enough and whines too much - no thanks. Samantha was quite good this week, and though it wasn't a song I'd heard she pulled it off. I completely disagree with the idea that Nancy needs to be someone men fancy, though (Denise, denigrate men's intelligence, much?). Is there no room for someone both men and women can relate to as a person? Oy. Jodie made me a bit weepy, I confess, and she'd have no trouble at all pulling off that trick on stage. I voted this evening for the first time.

It's a shame that Kwayedza didn't make it through to the Oliver role as he always stood out for me. Still, the ones they have seem to be good.

Will be very interested to see what happens tomorrow evening. One thing I was wondering - out of the four Nancies that remain, have all of them been in the bottom two at some point? Anyone know?

I voted for the first time tonight too. Of the four of them, only Rachel has been in the bottom two before (a couple of times, actually), and I suspect she might be in the bottom two this time, meaning that whoever is there with her is more than likely toast.

For the first time, I think Jessie should go. I've really liked her all the way through, think she has huge potential, but all that backchat was irritating. Listen to the people who know what they are talking about, lady, and you'll go far.

So I'm hoping that Rachel and Jessie are in the bottom two, that Rachel is saved and that the last two are then Rachel and Jodie. Though the way the public voting has gone, it's more likely to be Jodie and Sam. I would love Jodie to win. I don't think Sam has it quite yet. Rachel is good but has that Connie-coldness that disengages her from the audience. I'd pay to go and see Jodie.

I think Kwayedza's voice was starting to break. He was getting deeper each week, which would have been a problem for Oliver. I wonder if they'll consider any of the boys for Artful Dodger though? I agreed with the three who got through and it was lovely the way they gave the five runners up their final moment in the spotlight.

It was interesting that Andrew made a point this evening of defending the women who had followed his direction if one of the judges made a comment on something he had told them to do, and also made a clear point that Jessie wanted to do things her way. She's what, 18? And that comment implied she had ignored all of ALW's years of experience and talent and had decided she knew best. Very odd, I thought.

I think you have a point about Kwayedza. He's 13 which is that changeable time.

And yes, if Jodie wins this I will probably buy a ticket. I haven't bothered with the last two - I thought Connie was good but don't want to see Sound of Music on stage (nothing ever replaces the film), and I really couldn't stand Lee Mead (I know you liked him, sorry!). I saw Joseph on stage a long time ago, and while it was fun it wasn't exactly challenging theatre. Oliver, on the other hand, has so much to it, so much that's worth watching, that it needs the right actors in it. There are three in the semis that I wouldn't watch and one that I would - simple equation there!

If the rumour about Burn Gorman being cast as Sykes comes true, that would also attract me to going.

Yes, I liked Lee in ADWD, but haven't been to see Joseph! I do want to go and see Avenue Q with Daniel and Hairspray with Ben though.

I'm pretty sure Jodie hasn't had to do a sing-off yet, and I'm crossing my fingers that it stays that way because I really want the final 2 to be her and Rachel.

Hee, I only worked out who was who a couple of weeks ago. For me Jessie needs to go this week. I think Denise or John, can't remember which, hit the nail on the head a few weeks ago with her, she can't take direction. As soon as she's asked to do something different she blows it and that's not a lot of use in musical theatre. It's a shame she got so much praise earlier on, because I don't think it helped her and she's gradually gotten worse each week. Jodie, OTOH, just keeps delivering, week after week. I do wonder though whether Cameron was right when he said she's a bit matronly for the part.

I really got the impression though that they were steering the audience to vote Jessie out, John made some quite telling comments about her and in his remarks about other singers. Maybe they're worried about her getting the role and not living up to it. Give her a few years and I think she'll be great, she just needs to grow up a little.

Samantha and Rachel are much of a much, nothing to really seperate them.

I did think that in the duets they all tried to outshout each other and it wasn't pleasant, everything was very OTT just to be noticed. Jodie probably gave the best performance and I think if I were to vote she'd get mine.
