The Time Traveller's Wife

I started reading this book last night because it's had all kinds of great reviews and, since it's not the kind of book I would have picked up usually, I thought I'd give it a shot. Hmmm. I'm about halfway through it and that took maybe 45 minutes. Why? Because I was right in the first place: it's absolutely not my kind of book. So far nothing much has happened at all as I've skimmed through it. There's an intriguing concept that's barely touched upon. There are two first person PoVs which are pretty much identical, which certainly explains why they have to be labelled each time the PoV changes. The first person is loaded with stilted language that I just can't see coming out of either of the characters these are supposed to be. And nothing interesting happens. Will skim through the rest of it to see if it improves, but I'm really not seeing what other people apparently saw. Considering I was hoping this was going to be a demonstration of skilled writing, I'm more than a little disappointed, but at least I've had lessons reinforced regarding what not to do (the old cliché of having a character looking at themself in a mirror so they can describe their looks to themself is still ridiculous).

Definitely not on my list of films to see, either.
