I'd been looking forward to Pushing Daisies starting here because it seemed to have gathered quite a buzz. First ep last night, and I watched it this morning. Such a shame I was too bored to finish it. Removed my series link, deleted it from digiguide.

I downloaded and watched the first few episodes. I thought it was okay but nothing special. It didn't help that the only character I liked was the black PI guy; the others were either boring or annoying or both.

It's weird - who are these people who love this show, then? There has been vast hype for it, and I've not found a 'real' person who likes it.

I think I made it into episode 2, or was it 3?, but then got bored.

The two best new shows this US season have been Life, which is a cop show that got renewed so I can't wait to see what happens with it next, and Eli Stone, about a lawyer. The former is excellent, particularly since it's got Adam Arkin in a significant supporting role and two great female characters (and one soppy one), while the latter has the quirkiness that people seem to love with Pushing Daisies but is much less studied and 'knowing' about it.

Ooh, both of those look interesting, and I can't find any info on whether they're coming to the UK or not. Typical. What strikes me as odd is both lead actors are Brits - I take it they have to put on the fake US accent for their parts?

Pushing Daisies seems to have been written for people who need to have absolutely everything spelled out for them so there's no thinking involved. It's all tell and no show. I thought Anna Friel would mean it would be worth watching, but apparently not.

This morning I also watched the first episode of Chuck, which I'd recorded because it had Adam Baldwin in it and I might not hate it. It didn't annoy me anywhere near as much as I expected it to, though I doubt that'll last long - it seems like it'll be very formulaic.

At the moment I'm still liking Numbers, Sarah Connor Chronicles, House (kinda), and a few other things that I'm watching but which I wouldn't particularly miss if they weren't on. Sadly we still haven't made it past S2 of ReGenesis (no idea when more of that is coming), Jericho got cancelled, and there's no more TW. I've taken to hunting down boxsets of shows that I watched way back when and haven't seen in years, and also giving up on waiting for things to come to telly and instead to just buy DVDs of new shows. No ads, watch when I want, much easier.

I'm pretty sure I heard that Life had been picked up by a UK channel, but I don't know which one. Clearly the Brit actors have an advantage in terms of being actors and not just pretty faces, and the fake US accents seem to be just part of what they have to do to get work.

The thing about Pushing Daisies for me was that it was all 'oh look, we're so quirky! did you see that? did you see us being quirky, right there! and there again, us being quirky!' and so on. Meh.

Like you, I also watched the pilot of Chuck and am reserving judgment on it at the moment. I was also pleasantly surprised by Dirty Sexy Money, the title of which put me off, but which is interesting in a 'look at those rich freaks!' kind of way.

I couldn't survive without the assistance of the Interweb for getting my good television fix right now. I can't believe that nobody in the UK is airing something as brilliant as ReGenesis, for starters.

Dirty Sexy Money was another one I tried but it was like someone poked it with a stupid stick. This guy swears he'll never turn into his dad, then immediately turns into his dad when his dad dies. He was the only character with any integrity and that was written out within the first half hour. One ep was enough for me.

I'm getting quite frustrated by the way characters are constantly being written as stupid, as opposed to intelligent but with flaws. It's almost an instant turn-off reaction for me - the stupid appears, and I stop the programme and delete it. Maybe I'm expecting too much from my entertainment.

I really enjoyed the first episode of Chuck, although I wasn't sure I was going to. It's good to see Adam Baldwin again.
